The Republic of Moldova is a wine country. We have a vineyard area of 112,000 hectares with over 100 varieties of grapes. Most of them are european, but we have some characteristic only to our country. The most popular are: Aligote, Muscat, Pinot, Chardonnay, Feteasca, Sauvignon, Traminer, Riesling, Cabernet-Sauvignon, Merlot, Pinot-Noir and Malbec.

We also have a lot of traditions linked to wine, one of which we transformed into a National Holiday. Do you know which holiday am I speaking about? The National Wine Day! It celebrates the end of the harvest of grapes and the crafting of the new wine (Tulburel).

Today, the 3rd of October, we are celebrating the 14th edition of the Wine National Day in the Republic of Moldova. This may make you think that in this country almost everything is about wine… well saying this you won’t be completely wrong. We do love wine and we are proud of its’ quality. Numerous wineries are waiting for the wine lovers. One of these wineries is the Mimi Castle.

When you think about good wine, first locations that come to mind are the Bordeaux region in France or the south of Italy, but today I would like to tell you about a place off the beaten path of the wine tourist. I may not be objective, as I will be talking about a place in my home country, the Republic of Moldova, but hear me out: YOU WILL NOT REGRET if you check out the Purcari Winery.

Italy is one of the most popular tourist destinations. Usually people go to the well known places, big cities, but Italy is more than that. The south of Italy is the perfect feel the real scent of the country, the one with less foreigners as in the north, more authentic I’d say. One of the richest archeological regions of Italy is actually Apulia.

My trip to the French Riviera was one of the most spontaneously organized trips ever. I wanted to go somewhere, but i had no idea where. A friend of mine advised me to go to Nice, where one of his friends was so kind to host me. I thought “why not?” and booked the flight on the 15th of May and on 16th of May i was directed to the sea.

The Republic of Užupis is a district in Vilnius and it is a state within a state. It proclaimed its independence on 1 April 1997. Uzupis, has not only its own constitution, but a national anthem, a bishop, and four flags (one for each season of the year). It is quite small and isolated – about 148 acres (0.60 km2) in size. From the Old Town, Užupis is separated by a river, from here is its name which means “beyond the river”.
