Have you ever asked yourself how does the paradise look like? I think pretty much like Bali.

Bali, Indonesia

Bali is loved by tourists from all over the world. This small island is visited by at least 310 thousands tourists every month.

Why does everyone love this place so much? I think because of its diversity, spirituality, beauty. It is the perfect place to stay for a while, visit or live. Bali is attractive because of its surroundings, both mountain and coastal areas, excellent international and local restaurants, and friendly and always smiling local people.

Visit temples. Balinese Hinduism is an amalgam in which gods and demigods are worshipped together with Buddhist heroes, the spirits of ancestors, indigenous agricultural deities and sacred places. Religion as it is practiced in Bali is a composite belief system that embraces not only theology, philosophy, and mythology, but ancestor worship, animism and magic. They believe that every element of nature possesses its own power, which reflects the power of the gods. Local people use to pray before entering the jungle or going on the volcanoes, in order to enter and to get out without being harmed. Bali is known as the “Island of a Thousand Puras”, or “Island of the Gods”.There are approximatively 20,000 temples (puras).

Bali is well known for its diverse and sophisticated art forms, such as painting, sculpture, woodcarving, handcrafts, and performing arts. Passing through Ubud region you will see their works and you can also visit the manufactories.

Indonesian and Balinese cuisine is distinctive. I would say that it is the cuisine of extremes: it is or extremely spicy or too sweet. From the first hours on the island i was impatient to try all kind of local food. Even if my stomach wasn’t so happy because of the spiciness of the food i didn’t give up on trying. I think i got used to it only on the fourth day. I love Indonesian food . I will miss it so much. Especially different leaves with coconut and soerabi! Also they managed to transform even the healthier things in unhealthier ones: too much fried food – they have even fried leaves.

Things you have to try:

The coconut. It is so healthy and so tasty!!

Sea food in Jimbaran – you can come here for the dinner and catch the sunset. The restaurants are on the beach and you can choose the fish that you would like to eat.

Babi guling. I don’t like pork. I tried it only because it is a traditional dish, but it dind’t impressed me.

Fried banana – Pisang Goreng. You can find it with different topics. My favourite is with chocolate and cheese. I think it is the also the most common one.

Soerabi. Maybe not everyone loves it as i do… the one with chocolate, cheese and milk is one of the best desserts.

Fresh juice. They do it from all kind of fruits. You can add some chocolate or milk or anything you want.

Try the Luwak coffee – good quality poop coffee.. You can find this kind of plantations all over the island, and you can make a tour of them, see the luwak and try different types of coffee and tea, which are complimentary.

Bali is well known for the infinity pools. While some of them are private or expensive, others are more reasonable. One thing is sure you can’t leave Bali without visiting at least one of them.

Bali is part of the Coral Triangle, the area with the highest biodiversity of marine species. In this area can be found over 500 reef building coral species. This is about 7 times as many as in the entire Caribbean. This makes Bali a good place for sea-walking, snorkelling or diving.

Find the beach of your dreams! In the south you will find long white sand beaches, as you immagine it to be. In the north and in the west part the sand is darker because of the volcano eruption.

Go to massage. In Bali you can find different kind of massages. It is chip and you can go to their spa salon or ask them to come to your place or to have one at the beach. You can have a 2,4 or 6 hands massage. A lot of places have packages as well, so you can have scrub or facial massage or pedicure or anything you want.

Climb volcano Batur . It is a 1,5-2 hours trek. If you will ask me, i would say that it is not so easy to climb it. It is a long and hard way to arrive on the top, and not sure that all your efforts will be repaid ones arrived. The view out there depends on how lucky you are. We had to wait for a long time until the sun got out of the clouds, and then got in again.

Visit a traditional healer. I went to one in Ubud for a session of reflexology. So far i cannot say if he healed me, but the procedure itself was a little bit painful. There are people that are doing this ones in a while and they are saying that it is helping them..so why not give a try?!

Bali life

Before you pack your things and go to Bali, you need to know:

1. A lot of people don’t speak english. It is more common for less touristic places, but it can happen as well in places where you expect people to know at least a little bit.

2. You need a way to move around. There are no public transports.

3. They drive as crazy. Rules? Which rules? Nobody heard about them.

4. Local people are friendly, always smiling, but to them you are a way to earn money. They will try to sell you doesn’t matter what and as much overpriced as it is possible. It is annoying!

5. For the local food it is better to go to the local “warung” – restaurant. Not all of them seem nice at the first look, but you will pay almost nothing for good traditional food. If you’re afraid of hygiene.. i’ll tell you that you can see a rat even in an expensive restaurant.

Wish you all to spend the rest of the summer in the best way possible!! 😉
